Sink or Swim? (Link to Apple Iphone Commercial)
In recent controversial discussions of the use of technology- specifically the Apple Iphone commercial “Photos Every Day”- in society has been whether it shall sink communication skills or force us to swim into new trends. On the one hand, some argue that the Iphone turns humans into robotic, selfish, and consumed individuals. From this perspective that the obtrusive nature of the obsession that is a digital lifestyle contends that people hold artificial priorities over spending quality time with friends and family; as well as simply enjoying the natural world around them. On the other hand, others- including the Apple creators- claim that technology is a breakthrough in the way people communicate. In inferencing the message the Apple commercial is trying to make, the Iphone is exhibited as not a device responsible for cloning society, but to enhance and appreciate individuality. In sum, then, the issue is whether the Apple Iphone is a productive asset to society allowing humanity to swim into the future, or it is a destructive sinker of the natural way of life. My own view is that the Apple Iphone commercial stimulates this excitement of what is out in the world that I myself am not capable, or have not yet, explored. Though I concede that the actors in the ad are accomplishing or experiencing true awestruck moments and they have their faces blocked by this foreign object- I still maintain that this is an extremely positive, advantageous item in society. For example, in my free time I have indulged myself in the fine arts of performing with my electric guitar. Since this is a fascinating exhibit of my talent, my great grandmother wishes to see me in action, but is too tired to attend. Thanks to inventions such as the Iphone, she is able to experience a glimpse of the action from her home. In this act of sharing a mirrored image of my performance, she gets to take part in this enjoyment with me- even if it isn’t at the same time or place. This is the beauty of capturing the moment, which is the center focus of “Photos Every Day”. People are indulging themselves in the beauty of life, appreciating every moment, and they are able to share how proud they are to be alive with other people. Although some might object that these techies are obsessive and missing out on the natural world, I would reply that they are simply recording the moment to extend its affects on their lives. The issue of the Apple Iphone commercial “Photos Every Day”, is more important because now we have the opportunity to relive moments, these incredible experiences do not have to be left in the past, but accessible, memorialized infinitely.
