Eyes of the War
The Eyes of War actually started out as something completely different. Originally, I had planned to do a documentary on my friend's older brother and his experience with drugs; however, as learned from this experience, I need to choose reliable people to be my actors. Then it dawned on me to record thoughts of my Great Grandma, since she won't always be around to tell them. I learned how to tell multiple stories using pictures and her voice with her reactions. This story is incredibly captivating and is actually only a minute fraction of the story that she told me for over an hour of her life and how she became the person she is today. My family and I will forever cherish this video, and I am extremely happy to say I produced it. This project could have been better if I had more pictures and better audio.
Commercial (1/3)
Go Pro
This was the video mainly created by Brittany Fugger, in our three required commercials. I helped with editing and sound choices which were huge in the making of this film. This was orginally supposed to be a montage of all of us doing different sports or phsyical activites, but after one day of "Filming"- I realized I took pictures not videos and everyone gave up hope for me. Then it dawned on us that Brittany had stellar photage from vacation which we had to use. It turned out to be really a beautiful set for this commerical since Go Pro is about showing people in exoctic places- it was perfect. I learned how to properly time music with video. However, I also learned, as you can see in this YouTube downloaded copy of our video, how not all video will transfer over to YouTube.
Commercial (2/3)
Chrysler Crossfire
This video was mainly constructed by David Shapiro. It is a super cool, high pace commerical about his recently sold Chrysler Crossfire. Coupled with "I Can't Stop" by Flux Pavillion and interesting shots this commerical looks pretty realistic to a real car commercial. I learned how you can take pretty basic video, mix it with sound, and speed clips up to create a high paced and exotic looking persuasive video. He actually had someone buy it as they did see the commercial. I think the video was very well done and there isn't anything I would change about it. My favorite part is the spedometer when the song drops and you can see it accel.
Commercial (3/3)
Radon PSA
This was our first PSA made for the Radon PSA contest. Although we did not place, I think this was some of our best work. We used a slider, tripod, and dolly which created super smooth, focused video. I wrote the script and David was the voice over- which we added an affect to make it even more anonymous and creepy. I love how the b-roll is shots of the house and you don't know who is lurking until the very end after the hazard symbol appears briefly on the screen. It is truly almost so eery that you think it is a burgler or something until the hazard sign signals that it is something else. I don't know what else we could have done differently to place in the competition, we all thought we did everything we could do; we were just against some high shooters.
Short Film
Saturday Afternoon
Saturday afternoon was a technically difficult piece. There are several things I would change. One, we need way more close up reactions, but we had two cameras and one did not fullfill the "close up" job it received. Two, the sound is off because we did not use a boom, we did not have enough people to hold it, but we definately learned the hard way not to rely solely on DSLR sound recording. Three, the light is very visibile in the scene, but they needed a light that didn't fully lighten them to add to the suspense so I don't think it would have worked any differently. Fourth, we did not build up enough suspense, everything happened very quickly and was over before we knew it. Fifth, we learned we need to introduce the script to our actors before time so they are as prepared as we are; this also made us strand away from the script creating some new parts, but forgetting other written in parts. Overall, I think we did a 6/10 job because of the several technical errors, but it was interesting trying a new theme that took me out of my comfort zone even though I did not touch the board (and it's missing now also).
